DETECTIVE DAN #1 PLATINUM AGE Extremely Rare 1st Newsstand Comic Book KEY

Extremely rare & historic, 1. St ever Newsstand Comic Book in history. Norman Marsh Publications - October 4, 1933.

Thank you for looking at this item. A BLAST FROM THE PAST. Few collectors are aware of this very important comic book because it was discovered only a few years ago. For decades the "Oversteet Price Guide" listed Famous Funnies Series One as the 1st newsstand comic book (Famous Funnies #1 July 1934), and then this amazing comic book was discovered. Older, and priced for 10 cents, DETECTIVE DAN was a HUGE publication that not only was the first newsstand comic book but also was the first non-reprint comic book and the first comic book with a single theme.

Literally an explosion of firsts in one publication that used to be assigned to three seperate publications. Created by Norman Marsh, Dan Dunn made his big splash in newspaper comics, but started out in comic books. "Dan Dunn" started in a one-shot called Detective Dan - Secret Op. The short-lived company that put it out. Went out of business after publishing only three tabloid sized comics.

Dan Dunn" the star however would move over to Dell, furthermore Norman Marsh took "Dan Dunn to Publishers Syndicate who transferred him from comics to newspapers. On the whole Dan was pretty much a clone of Dick Tracy save that Dan sometimes went up against bad guys that wanted to take over the world.

He often helped out a little orphan girl named Babs and her dog Wolf. Like the Black Hood at Archie and Ka Zar at Timely he was one of the few comic book characters to appear in his own pulp magazine, which lasted only 2 issues. A Dan Dunn radio series lasted for 78 episodes. Then he would completely disappear. Features of the comic book.

The Very First Newsstand Comic Book. The Very First Non-reprint Comic Book. The Very First single theme Comic Book. Used to inspire DC's Detective Comics (four years later). Wu-Fang who was used on the cover of DC's Detective Comics #1 and is in the lead story of Detective Comics #1 is inside back cover of this amazing comic book (see last image).

A average grade book - 100% complete - Flat and tight, with deep colors - Cover and centerfold anchored at the staples. Some thin clear tape on inside spine of a few pages and partial inside front cover. NO restorations (No pieces added, NO color touches anywhere). Please look at the pictures to see the condition of the comic book.

Additional pictures of the comic can be sent per request. Comic comes bagged and boarded. Comic comes from a smoke and pet free home. All reasonable offers will be considered. I would be happy to answer any questions that you might have.
