1944 FLASH GORDON COMIC BOOK HERO CHARACTER 5 Syroco Wood Figurine KFS w/ Box! This collection was very well cared for, stored behind glass for decades. Produced by Multi-Products of Chicago. Rare figure and includes original box! Marks: "Flash Gordon marked on the front, "c1944 KFS on the back.
Condition: Figure is in good condition with no breaks or significant damage. There are several areas where the paint has worn off, particularly noticeable on the arms and the edges of the base. The original box it comes with has some tearing/smearing of the surface on one end, appears that maybe a sticker was applied and torn off. Also appears to have some water stains on that same end - please see last photo for close-up.

In the 1890s, Adolph Hostein, owner of the Syracuse Ornamental Company, developed a formula consisting of wood compound and casting fluids that could be poured into molds. The resulting casting appeared to be hand-carved.
The company manufactured a wide range of decorative accessories ranging from ashtrays to wall sconces. The Syracuse Ornamental Company became Syroco Inc. In the 1940s, Walt Disney licensed Multi-Products of Chicago to produce a set of comic figures from the movie Pinocchio. Multi-Products did them in Syroco wood. Collectors insert a second c,' Syrocco, to indicate a figure or object made by a company other than the parent company, Syroco Inc.
In addition to the Disney figures, Multi-Products did a series of 24 figures based on comic characters from the King Features Syndicate, which were distributed as premiums by Pillsbury.
